Welcome, RSX-11 User, to V2.0 of the RSX-11 Freeware CD! This collection of RSX-11 freeware has been assembled over most of a decade from various sources - hundreds of 9-track tapes, disk packs, 8" floppies, and RX50's. The contents of the sources date back as far as the early 1970's. Here it is all collected and indexed in one place. The bulk of the freeware is in the form of RSX Sigtapes that were supplied to me as BRU TPC (tape container) files from Tom Wyantt and Don Arrowsmith. These tape container files were written to physical tapes and restored to virtual disks. The one exception is RSX91B, which I copied to an ODS-1 volume from the VMS91B DECUS collection. The early Sigtapes were, of course, not originally created as BRU savesets. These were converted to BRU format by Don Arrowsmith. The file SIGTAPES.SUM serves as a useful index to the RSX Sigtapes. It also indices some other DECUS SIG volumes not included here. The following RSX-11 Sigtapes are on this CD: RSX77B Fall 1977 San Diego RSX78A Spring 1978 Chicago RSX78B Fall 1978 San Francisco RSX79A Spring 1979 New Orleans RSX79B Fall 1979 San Diego RSX80A Spring 1980 Chicago RSX80B Fall 1980 San Francisco RSX81A Spring 1981 Miami RSX81B Fall 1981 Los Angeles RSX82A Spring 1982 Atlanta RSX82B Fall 1982 Anaheim RSX83A Spring 1983 St. Louis RSX83B Fall 1983 Las Vegas RSX83B2 Fall 1983 Las Vegas, second volume RSX84A Spring 1984 Cincinatti RSX84A2 Spring 1984 Cincinatti, second volume RSX84B Fall 1984 Anaheim RSX85A Spring 1985 New Orleans RSX85B Fall 1985 Aneheim RSX86A Spring 1986 Dallas RSX86B Fall 1986 San Francisco RSX87A Spring 1987 Nashville RSX87B Fall 1987 Anaheim RSX88A Spring 1988 Cincinatti RSX88B Fall 1988 Anaheim RSX89A Spring 1989 Atlanta RSX89B Fall 1990 Anaheim RSX89EUR Europe 1989 Den Haag RSX90A Spring 1990 New Orleans RSX90B Fall 1990 Anaheim RSX91B Fall 1991 In addition to the Sigtapes, there are several more recent tools and updates provided here. Volume 1 is an ISO9660 volume, for convenient browsing on a PC, Mac, or Workstation. Note that the "text" files on this volume follow the Unix newline convention: a line feed at the end of each line. On a PC under DOS or Windows, you may need to call up the text files in a editor aware of the convention for the newlines to appear in the proper places. Volume 2 is an ODS-1 (native RSX-11) filesystem disk, filled with ODS-1 virtual disks. These virtual disks can be mounted under RSX-11M+ 4.5 or later by means of VCP, the Virtual Device Control Program, that is distributed with the operating system. In particular, if you install VCP and create sufficient virtual volumes with the LOAD VF:/PAR=GEN INS $VCP VCP CREATE /UNIT=64 sequence, you can use the supplied command file [1,1]MOUNTCD.CMD to automatically mount all the virtual disks on the CD and assign meaningful logical names to them.
