Hunt the wumpus is a game in which you attempt to locate and slay the dreaded wumpus before he finds and devours you. Wumpi live in subterranian caverns consisting of 32 chambers and dozens of interconnecting passages. They spend most of their lives sleeping; however, should an unfortunate hunter blunder into a chamber containing a sleeping wumpus the wumpus will quickly wake up and eat him. Scattered through the caves are bottomless pits. If you fall into a pit you are lost forever. Super bats also live in the caves. Like wumpi, super bats spend most of their lives asleep; however, should you wake one up (by entering its chamber) the bat will show its displeasure by picking you up and dropping you in some random chamber, then going off to hide. Wumpi are not bothered by pits or bats because they have sucker feet and are far to heavy for a bat to lift. Accompanying you on your journey into the wumpus' lair is a trusty local guide. Unfortunately local guides in this part of the world are not too bright, and can only provide limited information. At each step of the way the guide will tell you what chamber you are in, which chambers are connected to yours and whether a wumpus ("I smell a wumpus"), bottomless pit ("I feel a draft") or super bat ("bats nearby") is within two chambers of where you currently are. At each step of the way you can do two things. You can move to any chamber connected to the current chamber by typing "m xx", where "xx" is the number of the chamber to which you wish to move. If you feel you know where the wumpus is hiding you may shoot a magic arrow at it by typing "s xx", where "xx" is a list of up to three interconnected caverns. The wise hunter will not recklessly use up his arrows because if he shoots all ten without slaying the wumpus his death is certain and if an arrow misses the wumpus will hear it (wumpi have acute hearing) and move to another chamber.
