NO PRINT TRANSFER OCCURS. FIX: THE PROBLEM IS THE E.P. CARTRIDGE ITSELF. IT IS NOT OPENING THE PHOTOSENS- ITIVE DRUM'S PROTECTIVE SHEILD. ON A PROPERLY WORKING EP CARTRIDGE YOU CAN OBSERVE THAT THE SHEILD WILL OPEN WHEN THE THE LID (UPPER ASSEMBLY) OF THE LASERJET IS CLOSING. DAMAGE TO THE EP CARTRIDGE OCCURS MOSTLY FROM INSTALLING OR REMOVING THE CARTRIDGE IMPROPERLY. WHEN THE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN IT CAUSES A TIMING SEQUENCE MALFUNCTION AND GENERATES AN ERROR 13. IF YOU DO READ 33V, REPLACE THE DC POWER SUPPLY, IF NOT CHECK THE WIRING FROM THE PRINT ENGINE TRANSFORMER, IF IT IS O.K. THEN REPLACE THE TRANSFORMER. USUALLY ONLY ON A FEW LINES PER PAGE. MIGHT BE VERY INTERMITTENT BUT GRADUALLY GETS WORSE. THE REST OF THE PAGE PRINT LOOKS FINE AND THERE ARE NO ERROR INDICATIONS AT ALL. THE PRINT BOLDNESS IS MORE APPARENT WITH A FONT CARTRIDGE THAT USES A NARROW CHARACTER WIDTH. FIX: THE PROBLEM IS THE DRUM DRIVE GEAR AND DRUM SPRING WASHER. THE DRUM DRIVE GEAR IS PROBABLY WORN, AND IS CAUSING A SLIPPAGE IN THE DIRECT DRIVE BETWEEN THE EP CARTRIDGE AND THE PAPER DRIVE GEARS CAUSING A SLIGHT SMEAR OR AS IT MIGHT APPEAR "BOLD" PRINT ON CERTAIN LINES OF THE PAGE.NOTE ALSO A WORN MAIN DRIVE GEAR MIGHT CAUSE THE SAME CONDITION. THIS ASSEMBLY IS LOCATED TOWARD THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE PRINTER, AND ITS FUNCTION IS TO TURN THE PAPER RIGHT SIDE UP BEFORE IT EXITS ONTO THE PAPER OUTPUT.TRAY. WHEN ORDERING NACS PART'S FOR THE 2686D, REMEMBER ABOUT THESE TWO DIFFERENT ASSEMBLIES. UPPER AND LOWER TRAYS MAY FEED AT THE SAME TIME. FIX: CLUTCH ASSEMBLY ON CASSETTE PICKUP WAS TAKEN APART AND CLEANED. THE CLUTCH SPRING WAS STICKING DURING A NON ENGAGED ROTATION OF THE GEARS. BEFORE REMOVING THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, YOU SHOULD MAKE SOME REFERENCE TO THE WAY IT IS MOUNTED ON THE SHAFT. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, BECAUSE THE PICKUP ROLLERS MUST BE IN THE PROPER POSITION SO THE TIMING OF THEIR REVOLUTIONS IS IN.TIME WITH THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. A GOOD WAY TO ENSURE YOU'RE PUTTING THE CLUTCH BACK ON PROPERLY IS TO LOOK AT THE SHAFT THEY CAME OFF OF, AND FIND THE SCRATCH .MARK FROM THE SET SCREWS, OR YOU CAN LOOK AT THE ORIENTATION OF THE OTHER PICKUP ROLLERS ON THE 2686D, WHICH HAS TWO SETS OF ROLLERS.
