The Printer is capable of speeds up to 40 characters per second. Optional numeric and special character printwheel fonts can be ordered. A variety of optional type-style fonts with 10, 12, and 15 pitch and proportional spacing are available. ELECTRONICS SCE (Servo Control Electronics): Regulates the velocity of the carriage and printwheel motors, and supplies power to drive the carriage motor, printwheel motor, and hammer coil. SPI (Serial Printer Interface): Interfaces with the host system and controls the SCE. PSR (Power Supply Regulator): Regulates the power to the SCE and SPI Boards, and to all motors used in the Printer. MECHANICAL The mechanical components of the Printer include the cover set, print mechanism, carriage drive/paper feed motors, and the carriage assembly. *** NACS MACHINE TYPES AND FEATURE NUMBERS *** 4250,8630,8631,8670,8671,8672,9250 *** AVAILABLE DOCUMENTATION *** S-HDBK-284 Basic Four Model 4206 Daisywheel Printer Service Manual (8056A) S-HDBK-094 Diablo 630 Terminal Course Guide S-HDBK-D10 Diablo 630 CIS Supplement S-HDBK-914 Diablo 630 API Interface Manual S-HDBK-934 Diablo 630/630 ECS Product Description S-HDBK-961 Diablo 630 Terminal Operators Guide S-HDBK-904 Diablo 630 PCE Interface Manual S-HDBK-908 Diablo 630 PPI/HPRO 6 Interface Manual S-HDBK-906 Diablo 630 SPI Interface Manual S-HDBK-909 Diablo 630 HPRO 5 Interface Manual S-HDBK-910 Diablo 630 Adjustment Guide S-HDBK-D07 Diablo 630 Parts Catalog S-HDBK-952 Diablo 630 630/630 ECS Maintenance Manual S-HDBK-920 Diablo 630 Interface Reference Manual S-HDBK-936 Diablo 630 Handbook S-HDBK-924 Diablo 630T Tempest Maintenance *** AVAILABLE TRAINING *** Video Course # V-106-O B/4 4206 Printer (Tape # M1096) *** SPECIAL TOOLS *** *** SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEEDURES *** PRINTER-DIABLO-630,630KSR,630RO---------------------FIB001 Pg001 ORIGINATOR: J. When the printer is connected to a system a ground loop is created, this condition may adversely affect system operation. SOLUTION: Use an Ohmmeter to check between printer chassis and pin 7 on the EIA connector (See Figure 1). Infinite resistance indicates the grounds are separated. A short means that logic ground and frame ground are tied together. To separate logic ground and frame ground do the following: 1. Unplug A.C. power cord. 2. On power supply PCBA, remove connector J1 to gain access to jumper wire. 3. Cut and remove jumper wire connecting A8 to A10. 4. Re-install connector J1. ORIGINATOR: H. Failure to implement these printer changes will result in excessive paper misfeeds or improper print registration on the form. REQUIRED PARTS: (These parts are included with the ND009AA/ND010AA kit.) SPI PCBA Revision -09 (1 each) Part number: MM 370021, BFISD P/N 400393-002, VP/N 320293-09 High Tension Platen Roller Tension Springs (4 each) Part number: BFISD P/N 400396-021, VP/N 140 006 504-00 REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Remove the existing SPI PCBA and note the revision level. (The revision level is the 'dash number' of the assembly number and can be located behind J6 on the top left component side of the board.) If the revision level is -08 or below, replace the PCBA with the -09 level PCBA included with the Sheetfeeder kit. 2. Remove the Platen Roller Tension Springs (four each) and install the High Tension Platen Roller Tension Springs included with the Sheetfeeder kit. Adjust the springs to the maximum tension setting (forward position). Reference: Installation instructions, Section II, Service Manual BFISD 8059. ORIGINATOR: J. Future production 630 printers will have a jumper installed across pins 10 and 11 of the P13/P10 connector on the Ribbon Base Plate Assembly instead of the FORMS THICKNESS switch (which was actuated by the FORMS THICKNESS adjustment lever). NOTE: This switch is not shown in the present BFISD Service Manual BFISD 8056. Should you encounter switch failure, at your discretion, you may choose to solder the switch wires together, giving the equivalent of the factory installed jumper. ORIGINATOR: J. When using DATAWORD software, it is usually changed to 12 characters per inch by the format of the document being printed unless a very large type font is in use. When the MDT is placed in VDT-emulation mode, the printer will 'remember' the last character/inch setting established while in WP mode. This may be incorrect for DP applications, as most DP forms are designed for 10-pitch printers. At present, there are two ways to switch the printer back to 10-pitch. You can either power it off and on, or return to WP mode and print a document having a 10-pitch format. Current software does not allow transmission of the Escape Sequence necessary to change the printer Horizontal Motion Index. Users may mistake this condition as a hardware failure since the power off/on process is sometimes used to reset errors, etc. Please be alert for this situation. ORIGINATOR: J. This occurs by powering the printer off without taking it OFFLINE first; or by shutting down or powering down the system and then rebooting with the printer OFFLINE when there are still jobs to be printed. The result, in both cases, is that the remaining data will be sent to the OFFLINE printer and therefore, lost. This is an inherent characteristic when using Xon/Xoff protocol. There are three workarounds: 1. On the 2000/3000, configure the printer and port for DTR, if possible. ** NOTE: DTR IS NOT SUPPORTED ON MPx SYSTEMS. 2. Make sure that the printer is OFFLINE before powering it down. 3. Make sure that the printer is ONLINE before rebooting. ORIGINATOR: T. This causes either a Parity Error to be detected or question marks to be printed or both, on any Diablo-type printer (4202, 4206, 4211, 4215, 4216) that is connected to the port, powered up, and online. The software portion of this problem will be resolved on 7.3A. Both the 4-way and 8-way require firmware and hardware modifications to prevent characters from being transmitted. A Field Bulletin covering this will be issued when the ECN is approved. The workaround is to either leave the printers off line when the system is started up or shut down, or to be aware that one page will be sacrificed on each printer for every start up and shutdown. An alternate workaround is to connect the printer to the CMB, since it does not exhibit the problem. ORIGINATOR: T.
