Normally a Null character should be ignored by the printer. This problem occurs on printers connected as slaves to ODTs, and 7270's. It will also occur on printers connected to Terminal Controllers in all other Basic Four CPUs. SOLUTION: Run the printer self-test to determine PROM revision level which is printed on the last line of the test. To run the self-test proceed as follows: Power down, press line feed, power on, release line feed. The revision level should be Rev. 3 or higher. The terminal printer is a light duty cycle printer. Users should not print continuously to the printer for more than two hours at a time with a 30% page density to ensure that the printer's duty cycle is not exceeded. The printhead has a built-in thermistor that detects excessive temperature. The protection circuit, when activated, will send a "Printer Busy" status to the CPU. Symptoms vary according to printer model: Model 4208/4212 Terminal Printers for the S/10 System. When the overheat protection circuit is activated, the printer changes from bi-. directional printing to uni-directional printing. If the heat continues to rise the printer stops for a few seconds until the printhead cools down and then starts again. An Error 0 may occur depending of the duration of the stop. The default protocol for these printers is DTR/CTS, which needs a special cable or pin configuration. SOLUTION: When slaving a PT-4208 or PT-4212 printer you need a 907291-001 cable. This cable was used on the old S-10 systems. When connecting any of these printers directly to a serial port, the following cables should be used. 907291-001 907752-001 Printer ________________| |_______________ 4-Way/8-Way | | ^ | | (KA021AA) Gender Adapter, female/female | | v 907291-001 907753- Printer ________________| |_______________ CMB | | 907291-001 Printer _______________________________________ Terminal Pin Configuration For: 907291-001 PA PB 3 ________ 3 5 ________ 6 7 ________ 7 20 ________ 11 ORIGINATOR: C.
