WHALEN VIDEO TERMINAL-LEAR SIEGLER-ADM SERIES--------------FIB001 Pg001 FIB 00002 03/20/80 *** New style power supply adjustment procedure *** The following procedure should be followed when a new style Lear Siegler power supply is installed. The new power supply is marked with LSI assembly number 21A0005 and is easily identified by the light green printed circuit board material. (The old style power supply printed circuit board material is blue.) The adjustment procedure is important in that some spares shipped to Basic Four were not properly adjusted by LSI. NOTE: The critical item is the Overcurrent adjustment which, if set too low, will cause the terminal to shut down immediately upon application of power. ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE: 1. Disconnect the power supply and monitor connectors from display board. 2. Connect a meter to the output terminals on the +5V power supply. 3. Adjust the overvoltage protect and overcurrent pot fully clockwise. 4. Turn power on. 5. Adjust the VOLTAGE ADJUST pot on the power supply to 6.0 VDC. 6. Adjust the OVERVOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT pot on the power supply counterclockwise until the voltage goes to approximately +1.0 VDC (overvoltage active). 7. Adjust the OVERVOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT clockwise - slightly. Turn the unit on and off to ensure that the OVERVOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT is set to + .0 VDC plus 1.0 VDC to minus 0.0 VDC. Readjust the VOLTAGE ADJUST to +5 VDC. 8. Turn power off. 9. Re-connect the power supply and monitor connectors. 10. Turn power on. 11. Adjust the OVERCURRENT ADJUSTMENT on the power supply counterclockwise until the voltage output goes to 0 volts. 12. Adjust the OVERCURRENT ADJUSTMENT clockwise until the output voltage returns to +5 volts. Now turn the OVERCURRENT ADJUSTMENT pot 1/8 turn clockwise. 13. Adjust the output voltage to +5.1 VDC as read on the printed circuit board. This should be set with the meter leads connected directly to the input of PCBA. ORIGINATOR: P. Problems Due to Poor Molex Connections *** Original Document NAme - Tech Talk 5-II-8 Many problems are caused by poor contact at the white molex connectors carrying the power supply voltages into the VDT logic board. The female contacts lose their tension after use. It is reommended that all female Molex contacts on the wiring harness be tightened with a scribe or other pointed tool whenever any service is performed on all LSI and Basic Four VDTs. It is further recommended that the power supply voltages be measured on the VDT logic.board, in order to verify or adjust for proper power after passing through the connectors. ORIGINATOR: TIC VIDEO TERMINAL-LEAR SIEGLER-ADM SERIES--------------FIB003 Pg001 FIB 00004 03/20/80 *** Lockups Caused by ROM Socket Contact *** Original Document Name - Tech Talk 5-II-9 Reocurring VDT lockups occurring on programs using LINE DELETE LD and CLEAR LINE CL instructions are caused by poor contact at the socket for the ROM containing the program steps for those functions. Reseating the ROMs in their sockets after prying them up slightly will correct the problem for an indefinite time and should be tried rather that PCB replacement. The ROMs are located under the keyboard and are the only pluggable 24-pin devices on the PCB. Remove the top cover and keyboard PCB (leaving the brackets installed) to gain access to the ROMs. On older LSI manufactured VDT logic PCBs the ROMS are located on the right-hand edge of the PCB near the center rather than under the keyboard. Presently, two upper chassis assmblies may be encountered in the field: OLD STYLE: The older style (O/S) has a small chassis-mounted regulator board (MM170003/6-002-0459), a video power supply (MM170004/6-003-0371) with nine external wires and either of two interchangeable main logic power supply PCB's (MM170025/02-2002). NEW STYLE: The newer style (N/S) has no regulator board, a different video power supply (MM170026/816004) with six external wires and either of two fully interchangeable main logic power supply PCB's (MM170025/02-2002). NOTE: If O/S parts MM170004 or MM170003, part number MM170026 will be substituted. ORIGINATOR: P.
