FIX: The purpose of this circuit breaker is to monitor the +36 unregulated voltage so that due to a malfunction of the 36v P/S or hammer driver, the voltage does not exceed 40 volts & blow capacitor C1 that is rated at 40 DC Working Volts. The +36v comes in on one side of the trip coil, +10v from a differential amplifier in the regulator PCBA is attached to the other end of the trip coil. Normally there is a small amount if current flow through the coil created by the difference of potential. Should the voltage increase to 40.volts, the difference of potential becomes greater & trips the breaker. In order to determine the problem, do the following checks. Check +36 volts on the positive side of large capacitor C1 (it should be +36v with 1v ripple). If there is much greater ripple, then C1 is bad & the P/S must be replaced. If voltage is good, & problem occurs when printing, check print quality for a bad hammer driver, ribbon driver motors, and MPU gap on the shuttle motor. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS THE WIRE THAT TRIPS THE BREAKER (J16) TO BE DISCONNECTED TO PREVENT IT FROM TRIPPING - CAPACITOR C1 MAY EXPLODE!!! Additionally, selecting one of these clocks may require cutting the related etch on the PCBA: For jumpers E5-E8, cut E8-E11; for jumper E4-E7, cut E7-E10; for jumper E3-E6, cut jumper E6-E9. Any of these changes should only be performed by a qualified technician. ORIGINATOR: J.O'Brien PRINTER-PRINTRONIX-6280L----------------------------FIB005 Pg001 FIB 00006 08/28/90 *** Occasional Wrong Character Printout to Printer (Double Termination) *** SYMPTOM: Wrong characters printing to printer intermittently, OMT accounts only. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: The 6280L Printers sold to OMT, have been found to have double termination. The IGP-10 PCBA as well as the I/O Cable used in the OMT 6280L Printers, are both terminated. This is a mistake, the 108038-002 I/O Cable (MAI B/4 part # BA326011) is not normally used when the IGP-10 PCBA is present in the printer. FIX: This will not require a cable replacement, only the removal of the terminating resistors from the cable end. The 1K resistors (Printronix part # 101381-102) are located at the cable end, that connects to the CPU Parallel I/O Cable. The resistors (locations U1 & U3) must be removed and saved, as they may be used again, in the event of the IGP-10 PCBA removal (for trouble-shooting). The trouble-shooting technique, would be to remove the IGP-10 PCBA and plug the cable (with terminators) directly into the Logic "C" PCBA. This would eliminate the IGP-10 PCBA as the problem source, if the problem continued. NOTE: The terminating resistors should be removed (and saved) on the next site visit. This may save a future service call.
