On all other models the pin is not used and the extra wire (brown) has no physical connection. Attach the plug to the connector, keeping the index pin lined up normally. The unused contact will just hang off the end - this is normal. Notice that the Visual part number is the same for both power supplies. This is because Visual does not produce the 9-pin supply any longer and the 10-pin supply is a direct replacement for it. Originator: Bob Appel 10/29/84 ORIGINATOR: R. APPEL VIDEO TERMINAL-VISUAL-500,550-----------------------FIB003 Pg001 FIB 00004 11/14/84 *** STRANGE PATTERN ON SCREEN AT POWER-UP *** SYMPTOM: When the terminal is first powered on, a bit mapped 'pattern' is displayed on the screen for approx. 2 minutes before the screen clears and the terminal is ready for use. CAUSE: The EXTENDED DIAGNOSTICS parameter is enabled on the terminal OPERATION PARAMETER set-up menu. SOLUTION: Go to 'SET-UP' mode, page through to the OPERATION PARAMETER menu and disable the EXTENDED DIAGNOSTIC option by using the 'F7' key as directed on the menu. Save this new parameter to NON- VOLATILE RAM by pressing '-S'. Check to see the new parameter was saved by turning the terminal OFF, then back ON. The terminal should beep and no pattern should be displayed. **** NOTICE **** For more information refer to the Visual 500/550 Reference Manual and Maintenance Manual.
