However, the two manuals mentioned in tech talk A4 contain all available information, and are REQUIRED for proper trouble shooting of the Tallgrass systems. Formal training is offered by Tallgrass Technologies. The second week of every month, Tallgrass offers a factory training seminar on all current production models. For more information call Tallgrass Technologies; Overland Park, KS; 913/492-6002. These seminars are highly recommended by National Support for all FE's and ET's working on this product line. For other training contact your Micro-DPSS or District Tall grass Support person to possibly arrange informal training. The Education department can give you the name of the person trained for Tallgrass in your district. APPEL DISK I/O-TALLGRASS-5025,6135,6150,6180--------------FIB004 Pg002 FIB 00005 07/21/87 *** FORMATTING HARD DISKS RECEIVED FROM NACS *** When replacing hard disk drives in the TG-5XXX/6XXX Series, you must format the drive using the diagnostic program 'CDISK' (NS170066); or for the TG-6150 drive, use 'CDISK50' (NS170067). The customer's diskette will do a FORMAT/CERTIFY in the program 'DTEST', but, it will NOT format track 0 !!! Also be aware, on REV A & B TMC boards (in the Tallgrass enclosure), there is a jumper (J-14/J-15) which ENABLES/DISABLES writing to track 0. J-14 enables writing, J-15 disables writing to track 0. Be sure to enable writing BEFORE FORMATTING with 'CDISK' and disabling writing BEFORE RELEASING THE UNIT TO THE CUSTOMER. (This jumper DOES NOT EXIST on REV 1 TMC boards) NOTE: TALLGRASS DOES NOT WANT 'CDISK' GIVEN TO THE CUSTOMER FOR ANY REASON Originator: National Support 02/17/86 ORIGINATOR: R. Strapping position 08 (TG-6135: two 17.5Mb logical drives) must NOT be used with version 1.4, use version 1.3 instead. Originator: Bob Appel, 10/01/86 ORIGINATOR: R. Before commercial release of the TG-6150, there was a change in vendor of the 50Mb hard drive from Rodime to CDC and Miniscribe, therefore, new software was written for the new manufacture drives. Version 1.3 is written for the unused Rodime 50Mb hard disk. Originator: Bob Appel, 10/01/86 ORIGINATOR: R. Tallgrass disk software version 1.4 may be used for all installations except TG-6135 with strapping on pin position 08. To be safe: Use version 1.3 for everything but 50Mb drives. Use version 1.4 on 50 Mb drives only. NOTE: You may legally copy and distribute Tallgrass software for customers as needed to keep machines running smoothly.
