(1) Using the TAPE program and its certify routine, or (2) using the TGTAPE program and its certify routine. Tallgrass has announced to Sorbus that the TGTAPE certify program is 'full of bugs' and because the 3xxx series is no longer in production, the bugs will not be corrected. All software revision levels are affected. Therefore, DO NOT USE 'TGTAPE' TO CERTIFY ANY TAPE CARTRIDGES ON THE 3XXX SERIES TAPE BACK-UP UNITS - UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The purpose of the change is to reduce electrical noise on the interface cable between the PC and the external Tallgrass unit. The change consisted of ground wires attached to the connector frame from a new (BLACK) shielded ribbon cable, and the addition of two resistor packs attached to IC7 and IC8 to act as terminators. These resistor packs may be installed on either side of the PCB. (Any old style Interface PCB's returned to Tallgrass by Sorbus are being replaced with the newer style.) If you install an upgraded board in a machine which previously contained the older style, you must also upgrade the customer's software. The required software for the IBM PC/XT is as follows: Sorbus_P/N TG_Version Series DOS_Version NS170054 4.26-F4.24 3012-3020 2.X/3.X NS170055 4.26A-F4.24A 3135-3170 2.X/3.X (Sorbus is authorized by Tallgrass to copy and distribute this software as required) It is also desirable, though not mandatory, to change the interface cable from the old (grey) unshielded to the new (black) shielded ribbon cable. Only the NEW style cable is stocked by Sorbus. The Sorbus P/N for the cable is NS170015. If an old style cable is to be replaced with a new style, the Interface PCB MUST be replaced also. Select E - EXAMINE TRACK. Examine any new tracks for approximately 30 seconds. NOTE: If any files are presently on the track to be examined, the program will tell you what the file names are and will not let you procede until such files are erased. If the customer has a backup copy of the file(s), just erase the bad one(s) and procede as above. If the customer does not have a backup copy, then you will have to copy the file(s) to another spot on the disk. When doing this, though, SOME DATA WILL BE LOST. To do this, copy the file to a different name. When errors occur (TG-04 followed by DOS error: "Data error reading drive X - abort, retry or ignore"), choose ignore. When the file is completely copied, then you may erase the original file and procede as above. (REMEMBER, the file copied IS NOT COMPLETE.) 6.
