Determine if a 114 error code during POST is caused by an incorrect level of the IBM PC Baseband Network adapter A or the IBM PC Network Adapter II/A. 2. Inspect the network adapters during service and determine if the adapter should be replaced. MACHINES AFFECTED: 8580 with Network Adapter II/A or Baseband Adapter installed. PHYSICAL CHECK: When servicing the PS/2 Model 80, check the characters on the bar code label on the component side of the network adapter. If the first four characters are not 236C, the adapter should be replaced. Make sure that the replacement adapters have the characters 236C as described above. Replace the adapters with IBM 72X8106 PC Netwrk Adapter II/A (Sorbus P/N PC130030). Refer to IBM ECA003 for details of the failure conditions. Error code 114 can be caused by other failures unrelated to the network adapter. Typically only 1.6 MB out of 2 MB of memory is available. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: This problem has been occuring mostly on new systems still under warranty. The problem seems to be in the motherboard since changing memory cards has no effect. FIX: Replace system board or have customer call dealer for a warranty repair.
