    *** EGA AND COLOR MONITOR INSTALLATION WITH PLASMA DISPLAYS ***

    DESCRIPTION

    The following procedure is required to install and use an Enhanced
    Color Graphics card and color monitor in the Portable 386 or
    Portable III with plasma display screens.

    EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

        COMPAQ Expansion unit           107334-001
        Enhanced Graphics Board         106212-001      CZ020010
        Compaq Color Monitor            106162-001

    INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

    1. Set the jumper and switches on the COMPAQ EGA board as follows:
        For power-on default to the plasma display:

        Jumper P1       Switch 1        Switch 2
        1-2 connected   1 & 2 OFF       1,2 & 5 OFF
                        3 & 4 ON        3,4 & 6 ON                           

        For power-on default to the color monitor:

        Jumper P1       Switch 1        Switch 2
        1-2 connected   1 & 4 OFF       1,2 & 5 OFF
                        2 & 3 ON        3,4 & 6 ON

    2. Set the system board switches or jumpers as follows:

        On the Portable III, set SW1 position 7 to the OFF position.

        On the Portable 386, install jumper E23 pins 2 - 3.

    3. Install the EGA board into the expansion unit and attach the
    expansion unit to the computer.

    4. Run SETUP from the User or Advanced Diagnonstics diskette. To
    switch between the displays, use the MODE command at the system
    prompt.
    MODE MONO for the plasma display
    MODE CO80 for the color monitor

                                   NOTE
        You must run SETUP each time the video configuration
        changes; i.e., when you remove the expansion unit or
        change video boards.
