This problem occurs on configurations that have a highest sector available which is evenly devisable by 64. An error 7 occurs on these configurations because an attempt is made to 'GET' sector zero. This problem can be fixed by changing statement 2020 in "%D21" to: As is: 2020 FOR L1=1 TO H STEP 64 Modify as follows: EDIT 2020 C[H][-1] Should read: 2020 FOR L1=1 TO H-1 STEP 64 ORIGINATOR: J. ERROR MESSAGE OCCURS ON REMARKS ODT EVDT 1. "Invalid data detected Yes Yes Occurs on every pass. When BASS on TX after Start writes a string with trailing spaces Background ('SB') and reads it back, the trailing spaces are gone. Since the strings are not equal in length, BASS logs a data error. 2. "TIME ERROR: Hour read No Yes Occurs after midnight or if the is 0 should be 24" system time is greater than 24 OR hours. This occurs because the ter- "TIME ERROR: Hour read minal goes back to 0 hours at mid- is 1 should be 25" night whereas the 13xx system time does not. 3. "TIME ERROR: Minute No Yes Occurs intermittently. BASS writes read is 5 should be 4" the current time to the terminal and OR reads it back to verify. Sometimes "TIME ERROR: Second the terminal updates the time in read is 5 should be 4" between the write and read commands, so BASS logs an error expecting a number one less than what he reads. These are software problems and are being addressed by the diagnostics group. They do not mean that the terminal has hardware problems. ORIGINATOR: J. Using option #4 Primary Certification you are able to format the disk and it will ask for the Lock #, when it has completed a good format. This eliminates having to call for a Lock # everytime an error occurs during the format process. ORIGINATOR: J. This revision contains document files (specifications) for most diagnostic programs. We recommend to have a set of these specifications printed and kept with your reference files. To access these files run program "%DOC". ORIGINATOR: J. It is intended that this program be periodically run by the customer. The MTC Tape Verification Program allows users to obtain a visual representation of the quality of their cartridge tapes. Multiple passes of each tape thru the program will allow a determination of the bad areas on the tape and thus enable a user to decide when and if a tape should be replaced. To some extent, degraded hardware can be determined based upon prior history of tapes as compared to a current pass through the verification program. To obtain a copy of the program and instructions for use, send a scratch tape to Planning and Systems Support at Sorbus West, attention Jay Rippl. Tapes received will be re-certified and returned with full instructions for use. The program can then be installed on systems within your areas. Please address all questions to : Jay Rippl 800-433-9378 ORIGINATOR: J. All drives exhibit a failure at Group 03 Routine 01, "DRIVE BUSY - REWINDING" test due to the timeout provided in the diagnostic. These cartridges have replaced the 3M DC300s as the standard cartridge for all Basic Four MTC and MCS applications, so all Sorbus orders for YY006483 are being filled with them. It does not appear to be possible to bypass the error condition caused by the extra rewind time, however, SILVER should still be run on all MTC drives for testing purposes. All of Groups 01 and 02 should run error-free, so just run SILVER as usual, and if no failures occur prior to Group 03, ignore the "DRIVE BUSY - REWINDING" error, allow SILVER to abort, and proceed with remaining test/ inspection procedures. If format is performed under this Operating System the procedure will most likely not complete properly or possibly ignore bad spots, resulting in a missing or incomplete bad spot list. Should you then try to use this disk after such a format, in the "as is" condition, you will see various operational errors relating to the fact that now the bad spots are not mapped out. The minimum Operating System level under which format should be performed is 4.5 "B".
