Continue with printer definition for all printers that will be used for WordPerfect. 6.0 HELPFUL HINTS 1) When adding WordPerfect printing capabilities or removing WordPerfect printing capabilities to a UNIX spooled printer an error message, 'ERROR: All LP printers have been added to WP' or 'ERROR: No WP printers added to the LP Spooler', displays. This occurs because the WordPerfect file, WPFILTERS, resides in an incorrect directory. The file must be moved to the correct directory and the source directory deleted. From command mode (signed on as root): #copy -a -v /usr/spool/lp/interface/wpfilters /usr/spool/lp/admins/lp/interfaces Verify that the copy was successful with the ls command: #ls /usr/spool/lp/admins/lp/interfaces Remove the source file and directory: #rm -r /usr/spool/lp/interface 2) Using the SHELL function key (CTRL+F1) will bring the user to the shell prompt, but when the user returns to WordPerfect, the function keys become inoperable. The user's process must be killed because the SOFTWARE-WORD PERFECT INC.-WORD PERFECT-------------FIB002 Pg011 user cannot exit WordPerfect. 3) Currently, there is no template that matches the 1400 system keyboard. On both the CTRL and ALT template, some function keys work and some do not. They are not consistent. 4) Using the function key to access the Thesaurus, displays e's instead of solid lines. To correct this problem the terminal must be set to 'FULL FUNCTIONALITY' instead of 7270 mode. Once it is set, the configuration must be saved. Since this feature is changed in the Init.Mode of the terminal, the terminal must be turned off and turned back on in order to take effect. 7.0 ADDITIONAL REFERENCE MATERIAL For additional reference regarding WordPerfect, refer to: o WordPerfect for UNIX-Based Systems - Installation Guide AT&T 6386 o AT&T UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2 System Administrator's Reference Manual CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS & AUTHORIZED TRAINING CENTERS (Referral Listing) ALABAMA ------- ExecuTrain Birmingham (205)987-9877 ARIZONA ------- Lynn Abbot Phoenix (602) 869-6831 Carolyn Dillon Phoenix (602) 274-7253 Janet Crider Tucson (602) 885-1940 Judy RASMUSSEN Tucson (602) 299-7333 CALIFORNIA ---------- Pamela Fanstill San Francisco (415) 885-1458 Doug Bierer San Francisco (415) 543-4260 Thomas Van Deusen San Francisco (415) 995-2738 Betts Disney San Francisco (415) 227-4777 Computer Utilization Sacramento (916) 364-0203 Kathy Atwood Los Angeles (213) 477-7593 Steve Sullivan Los Angeles (805) 496-5110 Marcellus Richie Los Angeles (213) 201-0055 Penny Wheeler Los Angeles (213) 693-7175 Jeff Zamjahn Pasadena (818) 303-3137 Francis Swanson San Fernando (818) 886-6057 Tim Walter Studio City (818) 766 2517 Judy Crowder Beverly Hills (714) 393-9450 Linda Horan Santa Monica (213) 454-7679 Janet Lienhard San Diego (619) 476-9875 Becky Porter San Diego (619) 727-9462 Lisa Poulsen Redwood (415) 598-0902 COLORADO -------- Suzanne Dannahower Denver (303) 688-7188 Peggy Maday Denver (303) 690-4486 Rose Marie Franzen Denver (303) 832-2030 SOFTWARE-WORD PERFECT INC.-WORD PERFECT-------------FIB002 Pg012 BCR Denver (303) 691-0550 Tony Duff Boulder (303) 449-2925 CONNECTICUT ----------- CPCE Derby (203) 925-0400 Martha Lambert Brookfield (203) 775-4414 Diane Santiago Windsor Lock (203) 623-4921 Jeri Roberts Stamford (203) 356-1230 DC -- Future Enterprises DC (202) 662-7676 Tamaroff Associates Alexandria, VA (703) 683-1422 Cherie Haynes Alexandria, VA (703) 538-9056 Ann Waananen Hemdon, VA (703) 860-4353 Donna Austin Deale, MD (301) 261-9084 Diane Nelson Reston, VA (703) 758-3546 FLORIDA ------- ExecuTrain Orlando (407) 740-7762 Computer Savvy Workshop Ft. However, there is a problem when the printer is set up as a IBM Proprinter II and the number of characters per inch (CPI) is changed. SYMPTOM The problem is identified when a document is submitted to the PT-4228 printer from WordPerfect and the CPI is changed within the document and on the printer front panel by the user. Prior to printing the document, WordPefect places the printer into Proportional spacing and it remains there for the duration of the print job and after it is completed. SOLUTION To correct this problem, execute the wpgen utility and modify the printer type from IBM Proprinter II to the IBM Proprinter XL. Save the changes and exit the utility. Now the document can be re-submitted to the PT-4228 printer and the printer will remain in the specified CPI. RELATED DOCUMENTATION Please refer to Software Announcement #178 for additional information about using the wpgen and Hardware Announcement #33 for information on changing the CPI or set-up of the PT-4228 printer. ORIGINATOR: Jackie Shea SOFTWARE-WORD PERFECT INC.-WORD PERFECT-------------FIB007 Pg001 FIB 00008 11/30/90 *** Installation Media Problems with 3 1/2" Floppy *** Type: Informational Purpose WordPerfect 4.2 ships on 3 1/2" floppies for installation on a UNIX System. MBF does NOT have any duplication rights to this software. Consequently, we cannot create 1/4" cartridge tapes to install at customer sites. Problems arise due to the fact that GPx 40 machines ship standard with . a 1/4" cartridge drive and customer's do not order a 3 1/2" drive. WordPerfect must be installed from the 3 1/2" floppies and also MUST be installed into separate directories. Solution A feasible solution is to hand carry a 3 1/2" cartridge unit for a GPx 40 and temporarily install it on the customer's system so that WordPerfect can be installed properly. Below are instructions on how to install a 3 1/2" floppy drive at a customer site. There are two ways this may be done. 1. The first way would be a 'very temporary' installation. The drive card cage is full so the 3 1/2" drive cannot be easily installed. For this installation, we will not put the CCA cover back on the machine. If the customer does not have any concerns about doing it this way, this will be the shorter installation. STEPS: a. The branch/dealer MUST have has a 3 1/2" drive and corresponding cable (916470-001 Rev B). b. After checking that all user's are successfully logged off the system, shut it down and power it off. Unplug the system also. Please use your anti-static wrist strap before continuing. c. Remove the CCA cover. There are 5 screws holding the CCA cover on. Refer to the service manual for detailed instructions. **NOTE** The 440 has a clam shell in addition to the CCA cover. The clam shell must be removed first before any access . to the CCA cover. d. Place a piece of static resistent material on top of the chassis and rest the 3 1/2" drive on top of this material. e. Plug 3 1/2" drive cable into the SCSI controller at the floppy connector. f. Find an available DC power plug (5 exist on the power supply) and plug the 3 1/2" floppy into it. g. Plug the system back into the power source and turn on the powe to the machine. During the boot process, modify the CMOS to include the 3 1/2" floppy. If the CMOS is not modified, then the following error message will display: 'DISKETTE DRIVES OR TYPES MISMATCH ERROR - RUN SETUP' SOFTWARE-WORD PERFECT INC.-WORD PERFECT-------------FIB008 Pg001 2. The second way to install would require that the card cage is NOT full. Follow all the steps above with the exception that the floppy drive would be installed into the card cage. Once in the card cage, the floppy drive's cable can be connected to the SCSI controller and the power plug connected to an available power source. Related Documentation Please refer to the GPx series 40 Service Manual and the Software Announcement for the GPx series 40 for additional information.
