SHEHAN VIDEO TERMINAL-QUME-SERIES I, SERIES II-------------FIB002 Pg003 FIB 00003 MAI COMPANY CONFIDENTIAL 12/27/93 *** SERIES I ALIGNMENTS *** A. Alignment Condition 1. Allow terminal to stabalize at it's operating temperature. (approx- imately 20 minutes) The display will move 1 character cell left during this warmup period. 2. Remove Back Cover as described in the removal/replacemets F.I.B 3. Enter Setup Mode, set video to reverse, and depress '0' or '2' to display the test pattern. To enter Setup mode with ASCII Keyboard . (all series I terminals), press 'SHIFT/SETUP'; to enter setup with ANSI Keyboard(QVT 61 Terminals), press 'F3' or 'CTRL/F3'; to enter Setup with EPC Keyboard(QVT 61 Terminal), press 'ALT/ESC'. In QVT 31/51 mode only, you must be in local mode, native emulation to clear the display NOTE: The display Tilt has been factory set with the terminal facing East. CAUTION: Hazardous voltages exist in the area of the flyback transformer lead and the CRT Anode cap. Exercise extreme caution to avoid electrical shock while performing the alignment procedures. When working in the general area of the CRT, do not scratch, strike or subject the CRT to unusual pressure. The CRT contains a vacuum and breakage may result to injury from flying glass. B. Horizontal Display Width 1. Perform the alignment conditions in step 'A' above. 2. The distance between the inner edge of the Front Bezel and first column or the last column of characters is 13.0mm + or - 2mm, as measured with a metric ruler with accurate fine graduations. NOTE: When this measurement is performed move head and eyes to min- imize paralax. 3. If the distance does not conform to specification rotate L202 (Horizontal Display Width) on the Video Pcb with a non-metalic 7/6 inch Alignment Tool until it does. Clockwise rotation increases the display width and counterclockwise rotation reduces the display width. C. Vertical Display Height 1. Perform the alignment Conditions procedure described in step 'A' 2. The distance between the inner edge of the Front Bezel and the outer edge of the first line of characters can be measured by a metric ruler with accurate fine graduations. Near the upper 2 corners of the Front Bezel this distance should be the same and lie within 10mm + or - 2mm. NOTE: When this measurement is performed move te head and eyes to min- imize paralax. 3. If the distance does not conform to this specification rotate VR401 (Vertical Display Height) on the Video Pcb. with a small non-metal- lic standard flat blade screwdriver until it does. Clockwise rota- tion increases the display height and counterclockwise rotation reduces the height. 4. Check the character height and lines space to be equal at the top, at the bottom, as well as in the middle of the screen. if the any of the three are unequal then VR402 (Vertical Linearity) needs to be rotated th make them so. If the Vertical Linearity is changed then the Vertical Height needs to be rechecked. D. Brightness 1. Perform the Alignment Conditions procedure described in step 'A'. 2. Rotate the external Brightness Control on the front bezel fully up. 3. Locate VR203 on the Video/Power Supply Pcb. and with a small non- metallic flat blade screwdriver adjust until the background raster VIDEO TERMINAL-QUME-SERIES I, SERIES II-------------FIB003 Pg001 is just visible. 4. Locate test point G1 on the Video/Power Supply Pcb. and measure the DC Voltage between G1 and Ground. Record the reading. 5. Adjust VR203 to increase the negative voltage observed between G1 and Ground by approximately 11 +3,-1 VDC. E. Contrast 1. Perform the Alignment Conditions described in step 'A' above. 2. Rotate the external Contrast Knob on the front bezel fully up. 3. Locate VR301 (Sub Contrast) on the Video/Power Supply Pcb. and with. a small non-metallic flatblade screwdriver adjust until the back- ground raster is visible and the characters are sharpest. F. Focus 1. Perform the Alignment Conditions described in step 'A' above. 2. Locate VR205 on the Video/Power Supply Pcb. and with a small non- metallic flatblade screwdriver adjust VR205 for optimum focus at the center of the screen. Optimum focus occurs when the individual dots that form the character are well defined and clear. Note the setting of VR205. 3. Observe the corners of the display and change the setting of VR205 for optimun focus there. Note the seting of VR205. 4. Carefully adjust VR205 for an optimum compromise setting between the center and corner of the screen areas. G. Display Centering (Raster Position). NOTE: The display is considered to be centered when both the bottom edge and the top edge of the first line of the Test Pattern characters are aligned according to the procedure described in Horizontal Display Width and Vertical Display Height sections. The raster position may be changed by rotating the centering rings on the back end of the CRT yoke. These rings are secured with Glyptal to prevent a change in position from vibration and should only be broken loose if a raster adjustment is really necessary. If an adjustment is required, proceed as follows: 1. Perform the Alignment Conditions described in step 'A' above. 2. On a sheet of paper with straight edges, make two sets of marks along the edges near a corner at the distances and tolerances from the corner. The distance from the left side of the front bezel's inner edge and the first column of the test pattern should be the same as the distance from the right side's inner edge and the last column of the test pattern + or - 3mm. The same should true for the distance from the inner side of the top of the bezel and the first line of the test pattern compared to the distance from inner side of the bottom of the bezel and the last line of the test pat- ern. Equal + or - 3mm. A flexible metric ruler with accurate div- isions may be used in place of the paper scale. Note: When taking this adjustment, be careful to minimize parallactic distortion(i.e., move the position of head and eyes so that each reading is taken straight-on at a 90 degree angle to the screen). 3. If a display centering adjust is required, use a knife to carefully cut the Glyptal on the centering rings on the CRT yoke and rotate the rings as required to center the display. "Do Not loosen the deflection yoke clamp. The yoke position has been fixed at the factory and should not be changed in the field. 4. Check for proper display size and linearity if the setting of the centering rings has been changed. 5. Apply some Glyptal(or equivalent) to the centering rings after ad- justment to prevent inadvertant movement of the rings due to vibra- tion. H. Horizontal Hold 1. Perform Alignment Conditions described in step 'A' above. 2. Locate VR201 on the Video/Power Supply Pcb., and with a small non- metallic flat blade screwdriver adjust VR201 to steady the display VIDEO TERMINAL-QUME-SERIES I, SERIES II-------------FIB003 Pg002 from horizontal distortion or flicker. I. Horizontal Phase 1. Perform Alignment Conditions described in step 'A' above. 2. Locate VR202 on the Video/Power Supply Pcb. and with a small flat bladed non-metallic screwdriver adjust VR202 until the left to right placement is centered in the front bezel and has no wrap around.
